Program:
Kingmaker tells the story of a young Prince's journey to the throne, wherein the melody itself represents our main protagonist. I composed the piece using a Theme and Variations structure, so that each new development of the melody represents the next step in the story of the Prince, from “A Lost Prince is Found,” to “Requiem for the Ancient King,” and fnally “Triumph and Coronation.” This is truly the kind of piece I always dreamed of playing as a young trumpeter sitting in honor and district bands, and I hope that is as much fun to perform as it was to compose!
