He has composed for such notable ensembles as the Grammy-winning JACK Quartet, eighth blackbird, Roomful of Teeth, NOW Ensemble, and numerous educational bands and orchestras. Jonathan is particularly drawn to composing music that blurs the lines between form and medium. His artistic influences are wide-ranging, encompassing visual artists like Damien Hirst and Maggi Hambling, filmmakers like Richard Kelly and Harmony Korine, and musicians including John Prine, Thundercat, Supertramp, and Bohuslav Martinů.

Jonathan has been a fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival, the Red Note New Music Festival, the Lake George Composition Institute, and was the winner of the 2024 NYC SongSlam Commission Prize from Sparks & Wiry Cries. In the Spring of 2025, he was the Composer-In-Residence at Longwood University in Virginia. Jonathan holds a Bachelor's in Music from Shenandoah Conservatory and a Master’s in Music from the Mannes School of Music at The New School. After school, his first job was as personal assistant to composer Philip Glass, where he worked daily with the esteemed musician and accepted every bit of sage wisdom passed down along the way.
